Board Members

  • Susan Bell

    PRESIDENT

Susan Bell joined the Greenville League in July 2016. She has served on the board as Treasurer since July 2019 and co-president since 2020. A retired marketing professional, Susan is currently an adjunct instructor of Business at Greenville Technical College and a community volunteer. Like many of our members, she feels that democracy is threatened when citizens do not participate, or worse, are prohibited from participating. She joined the League to help register voters and become more involved in the electoral process.

  • Michele Byrne

BOARD MEMBER / DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION

Dr. Michelle Byrne is a retired nursing professor who spent her career in the Atlanta area and has lived in Greenville for over four years. Michelle became aware that she had taken democracy and voting rights for granted and decided to join the League. Her dissertation more than 20 years ago was addressing racial bias in nursing education. She has brought this background knowledge to our chapter and currently leads the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee with a goal of having all our members feel valued while promoting education to increase awareness of bias and institutionalized racism.

  • Catherine Cuneo

    BOARD MEMBER / VOTE 411

Catherine Cuneo was raised in Columbia SC, graduated from Agnes Scott College with a degree in history, and chose to become a paralegal. She moved with her family to Greenville in 1980. She is an active member of Disciples United Methodist Church. Catherine became an active member of the League after coming to understand that whatever goals we might have as women and men who care about a wide range of issues, none can be achieved without healthy voting systems. She believes in the mission of the League to empower voters with knowledge and to protect voting rights. “It has been a pleasure to know and work with others with the same goals.”

  • Susan D'Amato

    BOARD MEMBER

Retired physics professor, Susan D’Amato is a native of Greenville and a graduate of Furman University and the University of South Carolina. She joined LWV in 2021 after noticing that the national League was voicing strong concerns about the redistricting process in many states and that it was advocating other actions to keep our election system fair and accessible to all voters. She began volunteering for voter registration events in Greenville and is honored to now head our League’s VR team, which offers voter registration at schools, retirement communities, and public events across Greenville.

  • Melissa Ericksen

    BOARD MEMBER / SECRETARY

Born and raised in central New Jersey, Melissa earned a Bachelors in Fine Arts from the Philadelphia College of Art, and an Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Medical Technology from Wilson College. After the 2016 election, she joined the League to “continue doing what I can for justice and equality in the world.”
